Job Summary:

The Behavioral Psych Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care on the Geropsychiatric Unit, focusing on assessing, monitoring, and treating patients with psychiatric needs. The RN collaborates with the multidisciplinary treatment team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, administer medications, conduct therapies, and support patients in daily activities. This role requires strong communication, documentation, and coordination skills to ensure quality care and effective discharge planning.

Responsibilities:

• Assess, monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patient conditions.
• Maintain accurate patient reports and medical histories.
• Perform mental and physical assessments.
• Administer medications and treatments following physician orders.
• Assist patients with daily activities and observe their reactions.
• Manage therapeutic milieu activities including daily groups, education, and 1:1 sessions.
• Collaborate with physicians, multidisciplinary team members, and external health and social agencies.
• Develop and update individualized treatment plans upon admission and throughout care.
• Plan, implement, and coordinate nursing care activities tailored to patient diagnosis and needs.
• Prepare and complete all required patient documentation timely, including admission paperwork, assessments, progress notes, and discharge paperwork.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to therapeutic standards and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Valid Registered Nurse license in the State of New Hampshire.
• Associate degree or diploma from a 3-year nursing program; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience preferred.
• Proficient in medical terminology.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.
• Experience in psychiatric or geropsychiatric nursing.
• Familiarity with continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes and data management.
• Experience with mental health interventions and evaluations.

Special Considerations:

• Work involves collaboration within a multidisciplinary team in a psychiatric care environment.
• Adherence to therapeutic and regulatory standards is critical.
• May require flexibility to manage patient care needs in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.

Scheduling:

• Day shift schedule.
• Shift assignments based on unit needs and staffing requirements.
